"Be Aware"

Here are some clips from a project I shot for Video Resources that they produced for the Be Aware Foundation. It consisted primarily of interviews with breast cancer survivors and I shot it on one of VR's RED ONE cameras. We wanted to have a soft background and the RED ONE super 35mm sensor allowed us to use 35mm lenses which helped create this effect. Everyone was shot at one location which we had to make look like different locations. We did this by modifying the art direction and lighting looks.

This project was shot for Torrance Memorial Hospital with Varicam and HPX-500 cameras shooting @ 24FpS. In order to give the project a more filmic look we also utilized 35mm prime lenses combined with the P&S Technic Pro 35Digital Image Converter. This allowed us to shoot the interview subjects with a shallow depth of field, which helped soften up the hospital working environments behind them.

Edison - "Auto Tech"

Southern California Edison is the first utility in the nation to switch over to "smart meters". This means that their meter readers will soon be out of a job. In order to give meter readers an idea of the different job opportunities open to them within the company Powell Productions produced a DVD highlighting 20 different jobs they might apply for. Auto Tech is one of them.

"Mad About You" DVD Discussion

The producers wanted the focus of this discussion to be on the actors and what they were saying. That is the reason they went with the black limbo look. I decided to go with large soft sources to light the talent which gave them a little bit of modeling without any harsh shadows. This was a three camera shoot that was produced at the Production Group in Hollywood.

ESPN - E:60 Story - "OJ Mayo"

E:60 is an ESPN show that takes a more in depth look at all aspects of all sports. They use pick up crews in the locations they are shooting, as many of the pieces take them to lots of different locations. I've worked with them on some of their LA shoots. Interviews are usually shot with two cameras or three cameras - one or two on sticks and one a hand held rover. The style is to have lots of movement, even in shooting the interviews, when the cameras are on sticks.

I was DP for the LA segments of this story, both interviews and B-roll. I also shot the LA game footage. Everything was captured with Varicams @ 24psf except for the game footage that was shot @ 60psf.

ESPN Classic - "Cheap Seats"

When Randy and Jason Sklar had their Cheap Seats show on ESPN Classic they decided to do some short comedy bits outside the studio. There was a lot of hand held work and we worked very quickly. These were "ultra" low budget but were still a lot of fun to do. They are a couple of very creative guys. Everything Else.
